Freshman Fee

Allocated by its advisory board, in conjunction with the VP for Student Affairs, the Freshman Fee is intended for programs that benefit the freshman population the same year they pay it. These fees total approximately $120,000 each fiscal year. Programs have included:

Wildcat Welcome

Every summer we help freshmen start the school year off right with a warm welcome and an overview of the opportunities here on campus. They spend their first twelve days on campus doing activities that will acclimate them to the resources available from the UA and Tucson communities.


Bear Down Camp
Bear Down Camp

Bear Down Camp is a two day camp where incoming freshmen get the opportunity to learn about the heritage, traditions, and history of the UA. The campers are also taught about things to do on and off campus, how to get involved, and how have a successful first year at this University.


New Start
New Start

New Start is a comprehensive, six-week summer bridge program designed to help incoming freshmen succeed in the transition from high school to college. Through academic classes, college success workshops, tutoring and peer mentoring, program participants are able to experience the expectations and opportunities of being a University student.

Fee Amount

$20.00 per year, paid by all freshmen
