Turning the Tide: Sigma Nu Builds Positive Neighborhood Connections
Historically, Fraternity & Sorority Programs (FSP) and The University of Arizona received a number of complaints from residents in neighborhoods like Rincon Heights regarding nearby chapters. However, this semester has marked a noticeable shift.
While concerns still arise from time to time, there's also been positive feedback from community members. In particular, Sigma Nu has been recognized for its thoughtful and intentional efforts to improve neighbor relations.
After taking office in January, Sigma Nu’s executive board made community engagement a top priority. While they collaborated with FSP staff to brainstorm ideas, the chapter took full ownership of implementing those plans. From small gestures to broader outreach, their efforts reflect a genuine commitment to being good neighbors. They’ve also proactively created a plan to ensure these efforts continue through leadership transitions at the end of the fall semester. Their chapter president has worked closely with Assistant Vice President, Community Relations Julie Katsel to support and sustain these initiatives.
Sigma Nu has submitted their efforts for recognition through the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) awards, and we are hopeful their work will be celebrated nationally as well. Regardless of the outcome, we’re proud their leadership has already made a meaningful local impact!
